We are often asked for help/advice/tips regarding the best/safest ways to use our wax melts and candles, so I thought I'd put together a Handy Tips blog to give you a little help:
- Soy wax has a 'memory' so when burning a soy wax candle for the first time, it's important to allow the candle to burn until the wax has melted all the way to the edge of the container (memory burn) to avoid 'tunneling'. This basically means that if you only burn your candle for a short period of time, then you will get a tunnel down the centre of your candle and you may not get the best possible scent throw that the candle has to offer or it can reduce the life of your candle. A good rule to follow is allow approximately 1 hour burn time for each inch of diameter.
- Soy wax melts are simply placed in the well of an oil burner and an unscented tea light is lit underneath the well. The wax will melt but doesn't evaporate, it just releases the fragrance into your home. When the tea light goes out, the wax will harden and you can just leave it in the well until next time you want to use it.
- To remove wax melts from the well, you can wait until the wax has started to cool down after the tea light has gone out and then soak it up with kitchen roll and throw in the bin or if completely solidified, you can light a tea light underneath the well to loosen the wax and simply slide out and discard and replace with a new melt. Alternatively, you can pop the burner in the fridge once the wax has solidified for approximately 10-15mins and the wax should just pop out.
- Always use an appropriate candle holder and place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep out of direct sunlight, this helps to prevent colour fading and scent loss.
- Store your wax melts in a cool, dry place.
I hope these tips have helped you out but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask :)
